Dental Teaching Unit

WELCOME TO OUR UNIT

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to The Dental Teaching Unit (DTU). The Dental Teaching Unit is based in Port Talbot Resource Centre in Baglan, and has been providing NHS dental care since 2010.

OUR FACILITIES

We have 6 Dental Surgeries all situated on the ground floor with good wheel chair access . There is a large car park available to patients and we are easily accessible by bus and train services.

PATIENTS AND BOOKING APPOINTMENTS

Appointments will be offered if the Unit has capacity to see new patients. If you would like to make enquires on how to book an appointment you can call the Unit directly or ask at the front desk for more information.

DENTAL TREATMENT

Following an assessment you will be offered a course of treatment by one of the Foundation Dentists (FD) or in some instances by one of the Senior Dentists . A full course of treatment may take a number of visits . When your course of treatment is completed, you may be required to find an alternative dental practice for future treatment. The Unit needs to continue treating a wide range of patients who are able to enhance the learning of the Foundation Dentists who are placed at the Unit.

NHS DENTAL TREATMENT AND CHARGES

Some NHS patients are entitled to either full or partial exemption from charges. If you think you may qualify, please ask.
At present NHS patients pay according to the charge band appropriate to the treatment required.

BAND 1

This charge will include an examination, diagnosis and preventative care. If necessary this will include X-rays, scale and polish and planning for further treatment.

BAND 2

This charge includes all necessary treatment covered by the band 1 charge PLUS additional fillings, root canal treatments or extractions.

BAND 3

This charge includes all necessary treatment covered by the band 2 charges PLUS more complex procedures such as crowns, dentures or bridges.

URGENT TREATMENT
Will be charged at Band 1 fee
Please see poster for current charges

MISSED APPOINTMENTS

At our Unit we will endeavour to manage our appointments systems to avoid delays in appointment times and minimize loss of surgery time through cancellations and failed appointments. If an appointment is missed or cancelled without 24 hours notice on 2 occasions, we may be unable to provide future appointments.

EMERGENCY CARE

We endeavour to see our patients who may have a dental emergency during our normal working hours. Should you have a dental emergency out-side our normal working , you should contact NHS Direct Wales on 111 or call the unit and listen to the information provided on the answer phone.

COMMENTS ABOUT OUR SERVICE

We hope that you are entirely satisfied with your dental care. If not, please speak to a member of the team. We take all patient complaints very seriously, and strive to rectify the cause for dissatisfaction and improve our service. Further information on our procedure to deal with complaints is available in our waiting room.

VIOLENT OR AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOUR
The Unit has a zero tolerance policy on violent or aggressive behaviour and will refuse any further treatment to any patient that behaves in this way towards staff and/or any other patient using the facility.
